Cannot import slides

Feb 23, 2023

Hi!

I've installed the 21 feb. update for Storyline 360 today and wanted to import some slides from our template library on Team Slides. When I click import on a random slide the dialog box appears with progress bar, it downloads the slide and after that, nothing appears in my project. Also importing in a empty project doesn't work. I can seem to import some slides but others just don't.

Also copying and pasting slides from one scene to another doesn't seem to work.

I could use some assistance, thanks.
btw; I have the .story file but I cannot share it publically.

Thanks Richard for the tip. I have a case number for my issue, as I'm hoping Articulate can address this issue since I have a new course I've been working on. The new course is having this issue with select slides (not all) from our library template. It's mostly knowledge check and test questions, but there are some interactions that won't import. Also, I noticed in existing SL courses with question slides, I'm unable to duplicate these type of slides directly within the storyline file too.

I created a series of modules for a client - created earlier in February using Build 3.72, but edited after we upgraded to  Build 3.73. Now my client is telling me they are just getting a blank screen when trying to import these modules into their master courses.

They can open the story files OK.

This is URGENT. I need to know the details of this bug - do we roll everything back to Build 3.72 - Do I need to persuade my client to rollback? The courses are due to go live this week.

Hello Nerina,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

Since the behavior you're experiencing is happening to only one specific file, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hi Jenny!

It sounds like you were having some issues importing slides from one Storyline 360 project into another. Also, you're unable to publish to Review 360. Sorry to hear you've run into these setbacks, but I'd be happy to help troubleshoot with you!

I just had some clarifying questions to help me get a better idea of your setup:

[Inability to import slides from one Storyline 360 project to another]

  • Are the slides which are failing to import only quiz/question slides or any type of course slide?
  • Which version of Storyline 360 are you currently running?

[Inability to publish to Review 360]

  • If multiple scenes in the course won't publish, have you tried publishing one scene to see if it works successfully?
  • Are you receiving any error messages when the publishing attempt fails? If so, could you relay what the error message says?

If you would be willing to share a copy of your project file here in the discussion or privately through a support case, I'd be happy to test it out on my end to see if I can reproduce the behavior for both issues.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I just installed Articulate 360 yesterday (so it is up to date) and tried to import a 2021 storyline course in order to update it to our new template. Everything looked fine during the import, except that no slides were imported. There was no error message, just a blank scene. A colleague of mine also tried to import this file with no success.

I also tried to copy and paste slides, but that did not work either. At first I tried to copy/ paste an entire scene, but it did not work. Then I copied multiple slides, that did not work. Then I copied the first slide and it DID work. However, trying to do individual slides after that it did not work.

I have no problem importing other courses.

The course that I am not able to import works just fine when previewed. It consists of both regular slides and has quiz slides. The course is on my C drive, not a network drive.

Any thoughts on how to bring the course into our new template?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand you are having an issue with importing a course into the latest version of Storyline. It looks like you have tried the general troubleshooting steps. Would you be willing to share your file here or with our support engineers privately in a support case so we can troubleshoot the issue?

I am having the same trouble with importing slides from one Storyline360 file to another.  All files reside on my PC. The import process starts out ok, and I am able to select the screen I want to import. However, after clicking Import button, a new empty scene is created. I have tried multiple methods similar to Bill Simpson above, with no success?  I am on the latest version of Storyline 360. The file I am importing was only created a month ago.  Help!

Glad to hear that deleting the unused Feedback Master Slides did the trick, Keith! Thanks for sharing what worked for you in this thread. I'm sure it will be helpful to others who come across this post.

Great call opening a support case, as well! You were in great hands with my colleague, Jan. If any other questions come up in the future, feel free to reach out in the E-Learning Heroes Community!

Have a wonderful weekend! ☀️

Hi Keith!

I'm sorry to hear you've also been experiencing issues importing a slide from one Storyline project into another!

It sounds like you needed some help identifying corrupted elements from your course. I've opened a support case so you can share your project file with our support engineers who will be able to look into this further for you. You're in great hands working one-on-one with them, and they should be reaching out to you shortly!

Also, It looks like part of your e-mail signature came through when you replied via e-mail. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response.

Hi Laurie,  I went down this rabbit hole pretty far, and had multiple threads with Articulate help folks.  The best I could get for a solution is that the particular Storyline file is corrupt. What I needed to do was to create a new clean Storyline file from scratch, then put in all the settings/dimensions/theme as I had in the broken file.  Then import slides from the broken file. Not great, as there will likely be slide cleanup work to get the course back in shape.   Lastly, be on the lookout for having too many masterslides for screens and also for layers (different masterslides for layers). I would suggest keeping it to less than 10 of each.
