Chrome autoplay restrictions with "Always resume" on restart setting enabled

Jun 26, 2020

I'm currently working on a course in Storyline 3 that requires the player setting "Always resume" on restart. With Chrome's autoplay restrictions implemented in v66 and later, any media (audio or video) will not autoplay on the initial screen of a relaunched in-progress course.

My understanding is changing the resume setting to "Prompt to resume" is a workaround for this issue, but unfortunately that is not an option due to client restrictions. Are there any plans for future updates to include the play button overlay for "Always resume" courses similar to what you see on the initial launch of a course that contains media on the first screen?

Hi Pete, I think you would be able to address this by having a piece of silent audio (as small as you can make it, e.g 0.1 seconds) on your Master Slide. This will cause the project to show the initial "play" button to appear on the project regardless of your resume settings.

If you place on your Master Slide, you can be sure their is a piece of media on every slide then, and the user will be prompted to hit the play button to being the module.

It's not perfect, as you can't customise the button, but may help with options.
