Continued issues with text running off slide

Jan 19, 2018

I know this issue has been brought up before but it continues to persist and seems to be getting worse. We are using Storyline 360 on local computers. When we use a text placeholder from the Master slide, after the course is published, the text box loses it's "Wrap Text" property, even though the Master slide placeholder is set to wrap text. We've quit using the placeholders and simply add text boxes, but each time we have to make an update to an older course, it requires a lot of work to go and fix these text boxes. We see this behavior even in brand new courses.

For anyone having the issue, the fix is to right-click the text box, select Format Shape > Text Box tab and re-check the Wrap text box.

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share some great news! We are no longer seeing the bug that caused text boxes to break after applying a built-in theme in projects imported from PowerPoint to Storyline.

Please make sure that you are using the current version of Storyline 360 (3.72.29699.0).

To confirm or update your version of Storyline 360:

  • Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your Windows machine.
  • Click the drop-down arrow next to Storyline 360 and select Other Versions.
  • Here you will see the current version being used, or have the option to update.

Please let us know if you're still encountering the issue and we'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you in a support case.

Hi Kerry!

Sorry you are still seeing this issue! Testing it out on my end, I experienced the same bug in versions .71, .72, & .73 of Storyline 360.

I went ahead and opened a case on your behalf so our support engineers can look into this further and will be in touch.

Thank you for reaching out!

I had this issue a couple of years ago, then it went away. Today it came back on an install I've been running without any issues until now.

It happens even on a brand new Storyline file with nothing imported from PowerPoint or anywhere else. If I save the file and close it down, then open it again, the text runs right of the page even when the standard title and text slide format is used.

I can't believe this is still a thing.

Hi Mark,

I'm sorry to hear you've hit this snag! You mentioned that you see the textbox breaking even with nothing imported from PowerPoint. It is possibly a different issue than the one reported in this post.

Please share the steps you're doing when the problem happens so we can investigate further. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Eric,

Thanks for responding.

No specific steps that I have noticed. I create the file, type in the text, save and close the file. When I open it the next day the text on all slides is running off to the right. Way off, like three additional slide widths.

It happens randomly and doesn’t affect every file, but there is nothing unique about the affected files.

As I said, this exact thing happened a few years ago and then it stopped.

Best regards

Hi Mark!

Thanks for sharing the feedback! Sorry to hear that text breaking out from the text box has been an ongoing issue for you! I'd be happy to provide some insight!

Testing out those steps you mentioned in several different Storyline 360 courses (version 3.75.30269.0) I was unable to reproduce the same behavior. Every time I re-opened a saved course after adding a text box, the text always retained proper formatting.

I just had a clarifying question. Are you working locally? We recommend you Create, Edit, and Publish Courses on Your Local Hard Drive while authoring.

Also, if you would be willing to share one of the .story files that consistently displays this issue, I'd be happy to take a closer look and test it out on my end as well!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
