Correct Result Slide Triggers for a final Quiz with 2 attempts

Feb 20, 2019

Do you have the correct settings one should use for the results slide if we want to limit it to 2 attempts as a passed/failed?

I have attached what I currently have, the only problem is that for me it records my passed in the LMS when I take the quiz and fail it, then click the retry button and pass it. but it does not record anything for two other people on my team when they fail, click retry, and pass.

Can you please take a look at the screenshots and let me know if this looks right?

I also attached a different way that I tried - (3rd screenshot "2nd attempt" )

Thanks for including the screenshots, Christy. After taking a look, it looks like your triggers are set up correctly. However, I noticed you do not have a Submit Results trigger on the result slide. The trigger should say:

Submit Results [Result slide] when the timeline starts on [Result slide].

If you're still having trouble after adding that trigger to the result slide, we'd love to take a closer look at your file. If that works for you, you can send it along right here.

Thanks Alyssa. So I have a final slide that comes after the results slide (with a button) that has a submit results trigger when the user clicks, the second trigger says exit course when the user clicks" Does it matter if is there is one in both places?

Also in the screen shots attached. the first two have the retry button on the failure layer. In the third screen shot the retry button is on the base slide. Does that make a difference?

Hi Christy,

Thanks for those extra details. The "submit results" trigger on the final slide will work, so you won't need that trigger on the result slide. Also, it shouldn't matter if you have the retry button on the failure layer or on the base layer.

The thing that has me curious is the reporting in your LMS. The reporting worked correctly when you tested the quiz, but it did not work correctly for two other people on your team. If your triggers were incorrect in Storyline, the reporting wouldn't work at all.

From here, I'd recommend testing your course in another LMS environment, like SCORM Cloud. If the reporting works correctly there, we'll know that your set-up inside Storyline is correct.

We'd be happy to help with that testing if you'd like to send your file to us privately here! We'll delete it when we're done troubleshooting.
