course closed before finishing, zero score recorded on LMS

Aug 29, 2012

The course is built and runs well after loading on LMS.  There is a quiz at the end of the course and when an employee finishes the entire course in one sitting, the score and completed message is transferred correctly to the LMS.  However, if the course is closed before finishing, the course changes on the LMS to show as 'closed' and a zero score with a failure.  It's as if the system expects the course to be taken in one sitting and cannot handle it being closed before finishing.  When publishing the course we use the correct format for tracking by noting the quiz.  Is this a glitch in Storyline or are there issues with some LMS's?  Has anyone experienced this?

We do have it set to complete/incomplete. I'll try another setting and see what happens.  But, we've never had this issue with Articulate and this is the first time we've posted a Storyline product on our LMS.  I'll contact our LMS vendor for anything they may be aware of but I'm still hoping it's something within Storyline that can be fixed.

You could turn on debugging (  http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=zpn7ehj39gqe  ) and see what the content actually sends to the LMS.

You could also try and replicate the issue with the course set up in the SCORM Cloud (you can get a free account).   If the course works the same way there as your LMS, it could be the e-learning standard and how quitting a quiz before completion is defined.

If it doesn't work the same, I might look more toward at the LMS.

We've done the debugging etc and have now referred the issue to our LMS vendor.  I have no word back from them as yet and don't expect one anytime soon. It takes them a while to excalate issues to more experienced techs.   Please reply to this post if anyone knows more about this issue and/or has resolved it with their LMS.
