Course freezing if audio tool (headphones or speakers) is not connected in Storyline 1

Jan 23, 2015

We are experiencing an issue with a course (in Storyline 1) where if headphones or speakers are connected then the course works fine however, if no audio tool is connected, then the course will freeze for some people on the same slide.  This does not happen to everyone, just a handful of people and as soon as our IT department connects speakers to that same person's computer, then the course will continue to completion.  Has anyone else experienced this issue and are there recommended solutions or things to try?

Hi Dana,

We have experienced the same issues. At first I thought it was the embedded flash that I had in the storyline file, but it seems like maybe it isn't. Our IT department narrowed it down the sound card. I don't remember the actual explanation, but it had something to do with how the sound card worked and the Driver.

Our solution was to place a "Turn on your speakers" message at the beginning of new module we create.  Luckily all the old training modules were produced using other software so they were not effected. It's not the best solution, but the problem only effected a very small percentage of our users and trying to create any other fixes didn't have very good ROI.
