Course not allowing a resume - the cursor just sits and spins

Dec 02, 2022

I have tried everything to get this course to work; funny thing is that 2 out of the 4 courses - built exactly the same- work well.

2 courses will, when exited prematurely and then resumed, show the cursor just spinning, even though the window to resume or not appears.

Any thoughts?  ALL courses are published to SCORM 1.2 and all are the same, although I tried changing the SCORM name to see if that was the issue.

Thanks!  Deb

I'm having the same issue. We've tried a lot of things to fix it, but no luck. If it helps here is what we have figured out.

  • It does not occur if you are using the modern player. This is impractical for the courses we build because we do not use the menu, which causes the forward/back buttons to fall about 3 inches outside the course window.
  • It only happens once you have visited a slide which has some sort of interaction . . . it does not happen if you only visit slides where there is no interaction with the screen.
  • It started happening immediately after the v3.70.29211.0 update

We have over 100 courses in flight doing updates, and need a resolution to this quickly.

We are having the same issue with Storyline 360. When resuming a course, the cursor just sits and spins. Therefore users cannot access the course again.

Is there a solution or workaround for this?  This is urgent as we are unable to publish any courses as a result of the issue. This has not happened in the past.

Hi Lisa!

So sorry to hear you're running into this issue as well. I understand how frustrating this can be as you are developing content.

You've encountered a bug that we are aware of on our end. As a workaround, you can downgrade your installation to Update 68. That way, you can publish your courses. We will let everyone in this thread know once the issue has been fixed and we have released the latest update.

For your reference, here's a quick look at how we tackle bugs

If any other questions come up, please let us know.

I hope this helps!

Hi Deborah, Janelle, and Lisa!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 72, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the fixes we’ve included is:

Learners couldn't resume courses using the classic player unless they maximized the window before clicking the resume option.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

Hi Kelly, great name! :)

Quick question, we have a few courses that could not be resumed in our Saba LMS.  When we tried to replicate the issue to baseline our current Storyline build of 3.67.28569.0 to the new 3.72 build.  We can not replicate "resume" issue at all.  Was there something specific to the learner's Chrome/Edge version at the time they launched and left the course (that was compiled with a prior version of Storyline)?

Hi Kelly!

(Yes, you both have great names! 🎉)

Thanks for letting us know what you were experiencing when trying to replicate this on your end.

If I understand correctly, you have republished all of your courses in your LMS from Storyline 360 version 67 to 72?

If this is true, I'd like to let you know that it is expected behavior for learners not to have the ability to resume:

I hope this helps!
