Course tab minimizing when clicking URL or doc link in course.

Jun 15, 2023

Hi there all!

I had always been publishing my courses to open in a new window, but my new audience however, prefers the course to open in the same window. However, whichever browser setting is selected when clicking a URL in a course, whether to open a website or PDF, it still opens separately as shown in the attached image and the course then sits as an additional browser window on the bottom taskbar. This is very confusing for the learner since they think the course has closed.

My browser settings in my Storyline 360 course is set to not launch in a separate window. We have checked the pop-up blocker settings and they are disabled. What would be the reason for this?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Landi

Hello Landi,

Thanks for reaching out!

There isn't a setting in Storyline 360 that can be changed to alter how websites and PDFs behave when clicked since this behavior will depend entirely on the browser and LMS settings. I recommend testing your course in SCORM Cloud to see if links or PDFs will open differently there.

You can then contact your LMS administrator or IT staff to modify the behavior of opened links in your course.

Hope this helps!
