Course will not resume to correct slide

Oct 24, 2013

The course I have made will not resume correctly after I'm part-way through the course.

It is a large course with 11 chapters and a quiz in each chapter (230 slides in total). The player is set to "always resume" and the Menu Setting is set to "restricted".

I began testing by going through each chapter and chapter quiz. Chapter 1-3 worked great but when I got to the end of the Chapter 4 quiz the resume would not return to the slide I left the course from. It was continually returning to a previous slide earlier in chapter 4. It seems like the resume "Stopped Recording" where I was and was stuck on a specific previous slide.

HELP!!  This course was ready for Production until this bug came up!!

Hi Ray,

Are you deploying this course for web or LMS? If you'd like to test it within SCORM Cloud and you're able to replicate the behavior please share the .story file with our Support team.   If the behavior doesn't persist in SCORM Cloud, I'd share those results with your LMS team as then the Resume behavior is not being tracked within their system.

Ray, I think you will find this is an issue with the size of the resume data because of the size of the course.  there is a limit to how much some LMS's can hold, often you will find theta what happens is it goes back to a point that is not where you left.  Storyline sends all the resume data to your LMS.

You could try publishing to Scorm 2004 if your LMS supports this otherwise you may need to set all your slides to reset to initial  state which can help, or you may be able to change the settings in your LMS (some providers will not do this as they say it breaks scorm compliance).

Thank you both for your replies!!   Here are answers to both your questions;

Ashely

1. It is an LMS deployed course published as SCORM 2004.

2.I just tested in SCORM Cloud and had the same results - "resume" stopped working.

3. I will upload the course as you requested.

Phil

1. What does "reset to initial state" effect? Will the course still "resume"?

Ray Mooney

Ashley ...... The course was just uploaded.

Phil ............ Is the issue with "resume data" or "suspend data" ? I see both terms used but I see no reference to "resume data in the SCORM Cloud output log but I see "cmi.suspend.data" listed in the log.

If you would like to see the SCORM Cloud log here is the link;

Let me know what you find!!

Thanks, Ray

I've Published the course as SCORM 2004 - Edition 4 and we have run the course in our LMS environment and the "Resume" function still does not function correctly.

Have you been able to run the course which I provided you for testing?

Please let me know what actions to take.

I still am waiting for an answer as to what the " reset to initial  state" does and why this might help.

Thanks, Ray

Resume data and suspend data are interchangeable, resetting to initial state on each slide will send less resume data back, I would not expect that to be the problem if you are using scorm 2004 4 th Ed though as that allows ^4,000 bytes and your data is only 4014 characters.

Hi, I have this issue on a course with almost 30 slides, 12 survey questions and 9 graded questions.

Thus issue occurs even out of the Moodle, i mean by just simply viewing the course on Chrome.

If a turn to "proompt to resume" it works again but when i came back to "always resume", it stops working...

Update, the issue comes with two slides too. That was working until now... i will submit a ticket
