We have created a course that has 2 "paths" that a user can choose from. We need to be able to pass a completion variable to our LMS when they successfully complete either path. The paths are based on a series of scenarios that we developed - not using quiz slides. Each scenario has an associated variable (T/F). Is there a way that we can create a Results slide that will report completion based on these variables rather than being dependent on a SL quiz slide and which can set the completion status based on these as well?

Great question. If you do not need to track the actual quiz results, you should be able to set this up easily.
Set the branching as you wish to direct the user, then after either quiz have a common final slide where you can track completion.
