Dark lines around video

Apr 25, 2023

Howdy,

Hope everyone is doing fine.

With regards to the creation of learning content on Storyline, I created an exercise slide with a video on the good and the bad feedback side layer.

During the testing phase, some users reported the presence of a black line on the side of said videos with varying positions (in some cases the line appears at the top and in other cases the line is at the bottom).

Has anyone encounter such issue? Is there a way to ensure that such issue is solved for all users?

Here is the link of the exercise slide facing the mentioned issue : https://360.articulate.com/review/content/553728f1-bd27-4891-8a88-47325855517c/review

It should be noted that it was not possible to collect a screenshot, unfortunately. Can the above-mentioned link be checked instead?

Thanking you for your help.

Best regards.

Hi Didier,

I'm sorry to hear you're hitting this snag! Thanks for sharing the Review 360 link; I ran some tests using the latest Google Chrome version and did not see the black lines around the video. Here's a quick Peek of my tests.

As a troubleshooting step, kindly check if the users are running the latest versions of their browsers and if JavaScript is enabled. Please see this article for details on Storyline's browser requirements.

Let me know how it goes, and I'll be more than happy to assist further.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for the troubleshooting and for the video response which is all tremendous ! I will share the info with the rest of our team.

Personally, I think that the presence of lines around videos are due to the aspect ratio of said videos that does not exactly match that of the learning content, due to the responsive nature of the file. Since different browsers and even browser versions might handle the content's resizing differently, this might force the video to adopt the content's size, thus creating 'filler' lines of pixels wherever necessary.

We shall see how the situation evolves with respect to the different user's setup we deal with.

Once again, many thanks !

Didier.
