No matter what quality settings you choose, pictures inserted into shapes show a deterioration of quality when published. Though if you should insert them as pictures (and not into shapes) into storyline, they would show crisper. Does anyone know a way around it? some hidden setting...anywhere? or does storyline compress shapes not taking into account that they may contain pictures?
I guess not visible for a photo. But ran a quick side by side test and see a minor deterioration. Have submitted a support case and uploaded the .story file. Thanks Justin for your response.

Good Afternoon, Abhinav.
Here is the published output of a .story project file that compares the quality of an inserted picture with the quality of a shape with a picture fill.
My eye isn't the greatest, but I must say that I can't discern the difference:
Can you please share an example of a .story project file that demonstrates this behavior? Thanks!

Thanks for submitting a Support Case, Abhinav (00342912 for my reference). I'll be following along as well.
