Disabling navigation once users begin a quiz

Dec 10, 2012

Is it possible to disable the menu navigation once the users begin a quiz or test? I am developing a training module in which the users reach the final slide and are told they can either go back and review the material or when they are ready take a quiz. My problem is that once they begin the quiz I do not want them to be able to jump around using the menu navigation. Does anybody have any suggestions how to accomplish this? Has anybody encountered a similar situation?

Hi Chris. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

First, you could try changing the properties for the quiz, itself. If you change the "player features" to custom, you can choose to hide the menu so users aren't tempted to jump around the course while they're on the quiz slide.

One option could be to set a variable on the quiz slide that restricts navigation until the user has finished interacting with the content on the slide. There's an article with information on how to do this; take a look.

Another option would be to create a light box. If the user tries to access any of the menu items, a light box could appear to tell the user that they need to finish viewing the content before they can continue.

Let us know how it turns out!

Thanks,

Christine

Thanks Christine! I was trying to use questions in a pool so the option to use custom navigation wasn't available, but I decided since it is only a short quiz (10 questions) I will just create individual slides for each question. Doing it that way WILL allow me to control the custom navigation. Thanks so much for your help
