Disabling Next button on failure layer of a quiz

Hi!

I'd like to disable the next button in the navigation on the failure layer of a quiz. If the learner passes the quiz, they click NEXT and go on to the final slide, but when they fail they must retry the quiz until they pass. I have the RETRY button on the failure layer, but the NEXT button still shows up on the slide, and if clicked, takes you to the final slide without retrying the quiz. Is there any way to hide it on the failure layer only?

Thanks!

  • You should be able to make a trigger on the Failure layer to change the state of the Next Button to Hidden.

  • If you can't see that:

    Action: Change state of

    On Object: Next Button

    To State: Hidden

    When: Timeline starts

    Object: Failure (layer)

Thank you -  the trigger does hide the NEXT button on the failure slide, but when I retake the quiz and pass it, the NEXT button does not show up on the Success slide.

If I just take the quiz once and pass it, the NEXT button shows up, no problem. Do you know how to fix this?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Sue!

You'll need a similar trigger on the Success Layer:

    Action: Change state of

    On Object: Next Button

    To State: Normal

    When: Timeline starts

    Object: Success (layer)

Let us know if that helps!

  • Glad that Alyssa was able to help you, Sue :) I appreciate the update.

It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

  • So glad that this was able to help you as well, Byron. Thanks for chiming in to share and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

  • Hoping someone can help me, here! I have the same question, but can't set this trigger up.

My "Results" slide doesn't recognize my slide layers as objects. So, this trigger isn't possible. Anyone have any insight into this?

      Hello Emily!

Thank you for sharing a screenshot! You'll need to add this trigger to the Failure Layer or the Success Layer. I've added this trigger to the Failure Layer in this sample file attached to this reply.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks, Lauren! I see now where my error was all along.

I did try to duplicate this trigger on Success/Failure layers (even though that was not the screenshot I attached). I was so zoned-in on finding the slide layer in the trigger's "Objects" section, I did not see that just above it, I could select the slide layer under "This Slide". Tunnel vision!

        :) Thank you! Problem solved.
