Displaying objects on top of a video at particular points

Mar 21, 2013

I'm building a really rough draft of a course for a client. One of the scenes has a simple video I created on the base layer. There are buttons that are set to show on the timeline during certain portions of the timeline. Each of these buttons triggers the video to pause and a corresponding layer to display (each layers shares some additional bullet point examples of the component currently being highlighted in the video.) Each layer in turn has a button with a trigger to hide the layer and to un-pause the video.

It took me a few tries, but I got it to work. It works well UNLESS the learner fast forwards or rewinds to a different part in the timeline and the buttons start showing up at crazy times. Is this preventable? I do really like the idea of the learner being able to re-watch a part of the tour as they please, but the only solution I can think of is to remove the video controls.

I've attached the storyline file for this particular scene. Would love thoughts on a solution and any feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Carrie

Hi Carrie--

Here's a suggestion--remove the video controls and add a 'replay' button.  The button's trigger will jump to the same slide (circular reference).  Make sure the slide's properties are set to 'reset to initial state'.  This will basically, 'replay' the slide.  Probably not an ideal fix, but functional.

It might also be worth experimenting with cue points...I'm not sure how well they tie to the video timing, but it might be worth a try:  http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/syncing-animations.aspx

Good luck with your project!
