Drag and Drop not working in HTML5 output in chrome and IE

Nov 02, 2017

We have done Drag and Drop interactivity, but this is using the Triggers. It is working good in story.html, but it is not working in story_html5.html.

Following are the problem details:
Output: HTML5 Browser: Chrome Latest/IE Latest

Problem statement: In HTML5 output When we are trying to drop the drag element on drop target, then it is returning to own place again instead of staying there , if it is correct or incorrect. It must stay there, on drop target if it is correct or incorrect. Only Google+ is staying on drop target. We are facing this issue if We import it in new file as well. I have attached, Story file, Output. If anything needed from me please let me know.

Hey Ravindra!

Sorry you're running into these issues with the drag and drop interaction. Thanks for sharing your file with me!

It's important to note first that IE isn't a supported browser for the HTML5 output for Storyline 2, so I'd expect to run into unwanted behavior there.

However, I did see what you're describing when I tested your course out in Google Chrome. In the HTML5 output, the incorrect drops are snapping back instead of sticking.

I saw that you also submitted a case to our Support Engineers- perfect move! I'll have them weigh in a little further here on what's happening and they'll be reaching out to you directly soon!

Merry Christmas Greetings from Germany!

I do have the same problem (Storyline 2). My course (in Moodle) only works with Firefox. Some users are giving negative feedback because of the errors Chrome is giving them.

Do I need to share my file as well? Will the problem be solved soon?

Anyway, have a jolly good time!

Claudia

Hi Claudia,

Thanks for sharing a copy of your file! I took a look and published it using Storyline 2 Update 12, and uploaded it to Tempshare here.  I tested that in both Chrome and IE11 (latest updates of each) and confirmed that I was able to drag the box and then push the button. Can you test that one out for me?

Also Chrome worked for Flash and HTML5 (HTML5 direct link here). If that's still not working for you, can you let me know if you're seeing the Flash vs. HTML5 and what update of the browser you're on?

Hey Claudia,

After a bit of digging, it appears that the problem has to do with a drag object on a layer in HTML5. After moving everything from the layer on slide 1.1 to a new slide, the interaction works correctly. You can test the published file here.

I'm going to continue looking into this to see if this is a bug. In the meantime, take a look at the updated file I attached. Let me know if that will work for you!

Hi all. I'm having a similar issue with one of my courses. The drag object won't snap to the target in Google Chrome v64. It seemed to be working correctly in v63, but once we updated the browser the issue presented itself. It is working correctly in IE11.

I'm not sure if that's something the devs can investigate futher?

Hi Luke and Mary,

I'd love to help - can you share a bit more information such as:

  • What version and update of Storyline are you using?
  • How have you published the course (i.e. web, LMS, etc.)?
  • Where are you uploading the course to test it?
  • Can you share a copy of your .story file here with us? You can upload it using the Add Attachment button at the bottom of the reply window.

- What version and update of Storyline are you using? 360
- How have you published the course (i.e. web, LMS, etc.)? Yes, but it also
didn't work on a local copy
- Where are you uploading the course to test it? Amazon bucket for the
moment.
- Can you share a copy of your .story file here with us? You can upload it
using the *Add Attachment* button at the bottom of the reply window.
-
- I figured out that it's one of two things...Drag-and-drop doesn't work on
Chrome for Mac users when drag objects are groups or there is transparency
in the drop targets.

Hi Luke.  I was able to reproduce what you're seeing in the HTML5 output in Chrome v 64.0.3282.140 on my Mac desktop.  In my Windows version of Chrome, however, the drop worked.  Does that sound like what you're seeing too?

I also tried to modify your drop target so that it had a solid fill, but that had no impact.

I'm going to document that behavior for us to evaluate a little closer.  We'll keep you updated here in the discussion.
