Drop and Drag activity
Jan 18, 2017
Hi Community,
I created a drop and drag activity which was working perfectly i.e. drag an object onto the incorrect location and it would bounce back to its original location. However once I added the 'incorrect' layer, the object did not bounce back to its original location. It simply stayed in the incorrect location. Are you able to advise why this has taken place?
Thanks
Nerina

Hi Nerina,
What do you mean by "I added 'Incorrect' layer", because as a quizzing slide, they exist by default.
Hi there Nerina! It might be helpful if you could share your .story project file so we can see what you've got going so far. You can attach it directly to this thread in the reply window. :)
Hi Alyssa,
I have attached the drag and drop activity for you to view. Please note, I am a novice when it comes to creating elearns. This is only my third one. I have also encountered another issue with this activity. When I publish the complete file, and get to the quiz, as soon as I drop one item on either the 'Do' or 'Don't box, the slide immediately jumps to the next slide. Therefore the learner does not get a chance to complete the activity. I have checked and double checked my triggers and cannot identify why this is happening [☹]
Appreciate your help with this activity.
Thank you
Nerina
There is no attachment...?
Apologies. Here it is.
Thank you
Hi Nerina
the way you have it setup once the user drops anything onto the correct target - a correct layer displays
that correct layer has continue button to jump to next slide.
That is why they never get to complete the activity.
Hi Wendy, thank you! That issue is now resolved, however the objects do not snap back to their original location when dropped onto the incorrect target. Would you please check this for me and advise where I have gone wrong. Attached is a screen shot of the drag and drop options selected.
Thank you.

Hi Nerina
because you are wanting to display an incorrect feedback layer for each of the drops that is why the snap back isn't working. You have changed the basic functionality of the D & D by having separate incorrect feedback layers for each drop.
See the attached video, I have saved your grouped 'do and don't' boxes as pictures (I'm not a fan of grouped objects as they don't play nice a lot of the time'. I then updated the form view to have the drop targets as the pictures. You will see the snap back is working but the layers for each incorrect drop won't show.
If you wanted to have both functions working you would need to customise it more but I'm wondering what the benefit would be. If you snap back, the user knows it is incorrect or if you don't snap and show the incorrect layer with feedback, when the user clicks try again, they will just drag from the wrong drop target to the correct drop target.
Depends which way you want to go - let me know if I can help anymore
Hi Wendy, thank you for the time you have taken to explain this to me. I will leave my drag and drop set up as it currently is. I agree, there is no great benefit to the learner by customising the drag and drop to allow objects to return to their original location. That's just creating more work for me!
Kind regards
Nerina Williams
Good idea Nerina and good luck with your project!
