Edit Original Video File
Mar 18, 2015
Question:
"Can you view/open the original (or converted .m4v) video file in a Storyline Slide?"
Context:
I am using Storyline 2 and have some edits that I need to make in a video that was imported into Storyline. I don't have the original video that was imported. I have attempted to make my edits using the Edit Video button in the Video Tools Options toolbar. The trip, crop, etc. options that are available are too basic, and I believe that I need to use a more heavy-duty video editor to make some quick adjustments to my video.
I am looking for an option to Show in folder... or Open original file... I have done this in other programs, but never in Storyline. Basically after I make my edits, I will import this into Storyline again.
I have been searching E-Learning Heroes and http://articusearch.com/ for the answer to my question and have not been able to find it.
I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure I fully understand your question - but if you make edits to the video you'll need to reimport it into Storyline to be able to use the edits you've made going forward.
Sorry if I wasn't clear Ashley. I understand that I would need to reimport if I make edits. I don't have the original video to edit. What I was hoping to do was to find where the video file is stored on the hard drive that Storyline is referencing so that I can edit it in another software and then bring back into Storyline.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the clarification and sorry for misunderstanding. The video is stored in the .story file itself, so you won't be able to see it in a folder or similar. For standard videos that you've imported, there isn't an option to export them - but what you could do, is publish the project and then in the published output you should be able to find the video file as well, although depending it may be compressed as a part of the normal publishing output so it won't match the original entirely.
Thanks! I am not sure that is what I was looking for exactly but it might be a good work around.
Yes, definitely a work around if you don't have access to the original file, but hopefully it gets you where you need to be.
Thanks!
