Edit Video screen empty

Dec 30, 2015

I am running into an issue with the Video Editor.   I have been able to edit multiple video until this afternoon.   Now suddenly when I select Edit Video (either by right clicking on a video, or from the Video Tool ribbon), the video editor screen is empty  (the only button that is still displayed is the one to close the video editor).  I do not see the ribbon.  I do not see the video.  It looks like StoryLine hangs trying to open the Video Editor (I see a spinning circle, that never goes away.  I can still close this window, but that is the only operation available). I tried to deinstall Storyline, reboot and reinstall, same issue.  I have the same issue with different Story.  I also created a new empty story and inserted videos that I was earlier able to edit.  Same issue.

Does anybody have a suggestion to get this resolved?

Hi Yves!

A bug has been identified in Adobe Flash Player 20.0.0.267 that breaks several preview features in Articulate Storyline and Articulate Studio. For example:

* You'll see a blank screen when you preview a project.
* The preview area of the player properties window is blank.
* The timeline preview feature doesn't work.
* You can't preview videos, Flash movies, or web objects.
* You can't edit videos.
* You can't import Engage interactions into Storyline courses.

We recommend waiting to update your Flash Player until Adobe fixes the problem. If you've already installed Flash Player 20.0.0.267, here's how you can rollback to your previous version.

Hi all,

Adobe and Microsoft released information that Windows 7, Vista and Windows 10 have been updated.

Install the latest Windows updates to resolve it.

  1. Go to the Start menu and click Settings.
  2. When the Settings window opens, click Update & Security.
  3. Click Check for updates and allow the latest updates to install.
  4. Reboot your computer and test your Articulate software again.

We're waiting for additional information in regards to Windows 8.

Good news! Adobe and Microsoft have fixed the Flash Player bug that broke many applications just before the new year, including Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, and Articulate Studio.

Here's how to install the latest Adobe/Microsoft update so you can preview your e-learning projects, edit videos, and launch CD-published courses again.

Hi all,

I have the same issue since I installed Storyline 360.

I'm still able to open and use the video editor in SL1 and SL2, but the video editor is not working in SL3. I tried to use this tool in different projects (new or not) and the result is always the same: the video editor is blank and loading (endless).

Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

PS: my adobe flash plugin is always up-to-date

Hi Formation,

Have you tried repairing Storyline 3 and Storyline 360? You can find the repair steps for Storyline 3 here, and Storyline 360 here.

If you've gone through those and are still having problems with the video editor not working, I'd suggest working directly with our Support Engineers to take a deeper look at your computer and what else may be happening.
