Elapsed time not reporting to LMS only total Time

Jul 08, 2016

I have tested a course in SCORM Cloud but it never updates the time until the user completed the course It remains at 00:00. After the user Passes/Completes the course them it displays the Total Time. My client wants to view Elapsed Time as well.

I am publishing for xAPI/Tin Can. This course completion is based on a results slide.

*I have uploaded SCORM-based courses that update Total Time whether or not the course has been completed.

Hi Randall,

This functionality is not built into Storyline, as it's up to the LMS to track when the user logged in and how long they've been accessing the course for. You may want to reach out to the creators of SCORM Cloud, Rustici Software (You can contact them here: http://www.scorm.com/ )or your specific LMS to see if they have information to share in terms of how to turn this functionality on.

Sorry I wasn't clear. When I say elapsed time I mean that the Total Time is not updating with my Tin Can course. When I test a SCORM 1.2/2004 course on SCORM Cloud the Total Time tracks whether I have completed the course or not.

Example: If I launch a SCORM 1.2 course, go through a few slides and exit, the LMS will display the Total Time I have been in the course so far (ex. 01: 24). I can go back in and continue and the Total Time will always update.

If I do the same with a TinCan course then the LMS ALWAYS displays 00:00 for Total Time no matter what. It is only AFTER I complete the course that it updates the final time (ex. 40:07)

I have asked Rustici (SCORM Cloud) about this. They said it's a Storyline issue :|

Hi Randall,

Thanks for the clarification and I discussed this with some other colleagues this AM. They confirmed it's up to the LMS to read the information and report it, but that perhaps the Tin Can output is tracking/reporting differently. What we'd want to do is take a look at the LMS debug log (you can enable it as described here for Tin can and SCORM) and compare the time. If you need our help comparing those to see if the data is not being passed, please share the reports by uploading here to our Support Engineers.
