Embedding Kaltura videos in Storyline 2: blurry display in Chrome

Sep 26, 2019

Hi all,

On a recent project, videos from Kaltura are inconsistently displaying very blurry thumbnails and redacted video titles when embedded on a slide layer (see attachment).

This only happens when viewing the published project in Chrome, I tried in Firefox and everything looks fine.

I've done the exact same thing on other Storyline projects, and I've tried embedding the same video files in other locations (LibGuides, Google Sites) which cause no issues in any case.

Any suggestions of what could be going on would be gratefully received!

Matt

Hi Matt!

Sorry to hear you've run into this issue.

I would like to suggest this workaround done by some of the community members here which is scaling the story size to the video size. The possible reason for this is because the quality of your video directly depends on the size of your slides or story. If your slides are smaller it means that the dimensions of your video will become blurry when you publish it (in your case is in Chrome). If you increase the size of the slides, this will make the quality of the embedded video as good as the original.

This is currently the best practice for inserting videos but works as well for embedded videos.

If you've already performed this workaround and the issue still persists, you can reach out and share the file privately with the Support Engineers by using this link so that they will be able to fix the issue. :)

I hope this helps!

Hello Matt and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

It looks like Khrystal has shared some great information with you here and I wanted to share our documentation on this topic as well.

If you still need some assistance, then with your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
