Engage 09' interactions not loading properly when published in Storyline 2 (SCORM output)

Apr 16, 2015

Hello,

I've come across a strange issue with imported Engage 09 interactions in Storyline 2.

When publishing to SCORM (and subsequently playing it back on the LMS), the interaction is cut off and off-center.  Further it looks like it's in a weird z-axis limbo, where hovering over it with the cursor brings it to the front.  Unless you do that, it looks like the image below.

engage error, initial state

Also, this should probably be in another thread, but SL2 crashes every time I try to preview the project if there are any engage interactions within.

I've tried opening them in a lightbox as well, and the formatting, while better, is still wonky.

Any help or workarounds would be great!

HI Adam,

I haven't seen that set up with Engage 09 in SL2 before, but I'd be curious to take a look at it. You mentioned you're viewing the SCORM output, but where are you testing it? Have you looked at SCORM Cloud?  It's an industry standard for SCORM testing, and you can test AICC there as well.

In regards to the Engage element coming to the front, that's expected based on the web object behavior detailed here.  Lastly, because web objects can't be previewed, you may want to look at adding the Engage element at the very end of your production process. Our team is aware of an issue where Engage 09 added to SL2 does cause a crash during the preview - so we'll continue to keep you posted on that.

Thanks Ashley,

I have tried testing it on a number of SCORM "testing" sites, as well as our own LMS with the same result.

I did, however, find a workaround.  The issue seems to disappear when I change the player settings to:

"Resize browser to optimal size"

and

"Scale player to fill browser window"

While this does leave the player much larger for users with high-resolution, large monitors, it at least seems to have addressed the issue.

My guess is that it's not scaling the swf file properly in the other browser modes.

Thanks!

Adam
