Engage File now loading in Firefox Browser

May 04, 2016

Hey,

It seems that we are having issues with our SCORM files on the Firefox browser. After doing some research and testing I would say it is specific to the slides which were done in Engage. I'm pretty sure we are using Storyline 2 with various slides maintaining Engage files. Everything seems to work fine in Chrome, but due to how Firefox handles Flash, those specific slides do not load at all. The exact error message can be seen in the Browser console, and the message states something like "WriteSWFObject" not defined.

I will look to test this on Scorm Cloud and try and isolate the issue further, but as stated above I'm fairly certian this is the issue, but I have not been able to find a workaround or solution. Is there something we can do in the Storyline 2 setting s before publishing or any other viable options?

Hi Hartley!

Is your Firefox up-to-date with the latest Flash updates? We only support the Flash output in Firefox as you can see here.

In addition, as you can see in this chart, the Engage interaction would not be supported in HTML5 or AMP either.

Sounds like it may be specific to your browser if it works as expected in Chrome.

Additional information that may assist:

If you're using Firefox, you may find that your Articulate content doesn't launch as expected. You may see a message that the Flash plugin is vulnerable and has been blocked. See this article for more information and solutions.

Hey Leslie !

Thank you for the reply.

Yes my Firefox is up to date and I have Adobe Flash 11.2

We publish our SCORM files for LMS and when we attempt to view these files on the LMS and even on SCORM cloud the Engage slides do not load.

I've attached an image demonstrating the error we receive when attempting to view the file on SCORM cloud. As you can see the slide does not load and gives an error message, however the message is not accurate as when I launch the same course from SCORM cloud on Chrome, everything loads fine.

I'm not sure if it's specific to my browser as so far everyone I've had test this is getting the same issue, so my assumption would be that it's either Firefox / Flash or an incorrect setting on our end when publishing our files.

Ah, that does look like it may be your file Hartley.

If you import an Articulate Engage interaction into your Articulate Storyline course but it's missing when you preview or publish, see this article for reasons and solutions.

I would perhaps try a re-publish and make sure that the Engage is included properly. Be sure that you have imported the file as explained here.

Hi Hartley!

Looks like our QA Team is aware of and working on an issue when Engage '09 files are added to Storyline 2 and not displaying in Firefox. I had not seen this issue before, but I'm seeing it now.

Do you have Studio '13 as well as the issue is not occurring on upgraded Engage files?

I'm adding this thread for them both for user awareness and for update when applicable.

Hey Leslie !

Ok great so glad we were able to identify the issue. I wasn't sure if the problem was with a mis-configuration or improper setup on our end. Is there some sort of public ticket system you have available for me to be able to track the status of the issue?

Unfortunately we don't have Studio '13, just Storyline 2 and the previous version of Engage and Quizmaker. Would upgrading the 09 Engage tiles to '13 potentially solve the issue?
