Engage like templates for Storyline

Feb 19, 2013

Hello,  I'm tasked with converting a rather large project under a strict deadline.  I'm new to Storyline but have managed to get everything imported and updated with the exception of quite a few Engage interactions.  I would rather not rebuild these from scratch but I can't import Engage into this project since it will be used by clinicians and needs to be viewable on mobile platforms (html5).   I see where there has been some sharing of templates and wondering if anyone has recreated the pyramid or straight arrows across the bottom with hotspots to flip the screen.  I also note the cute little audio clips when rolling over buttons anyway to recreate this is Storyline - sorry for these newbie questions.

thanks, Sharon

p.s. it would be great if Articulate would translate a basic set of what is currently in Engage for Storyline (that publishes to html5)  it seems a lot of work for everyone to recreate the wheel?

Hi Sharon!

You're correct. In order to successfully import Engage interactions into Storyline, you must have Articulate Engage '09 installed and activated on your computer. Additionally, Engage interactions in Storyline work as expected in the default Flash content, but they're not supported in HTML5 or the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad. I know a certain staff member is working on putting together a pyramid interaction built in Storyline. I'm sure she would be willing to share once it's complete

Hi everyone!

I've been working on a project for this discussion, slowly but surely. I'm still not quite done with the project, but I thought I'd share a "sneak peek" of what I have so far. Right now, the basic functionally is in place. I plan on adding the initial animation that's provided in the original Engage pyramid interaction and a few other animations.

Here's what I have so far:

Storyline Pyramid Example

Once I'm finished with everything, I will share the file, just in case anyone's interested in using this in the future. Obviously, it still has a long way to go - but I've had a lot of fun working with it. I love Engage interactions, so it's been a blast trying to recreate this.

Thanks!

Hi Sharon,

Awesome I wasn't too sure if it would work for anyone, but I'm glad you liked it.

I'm hoping to have it done soon, but it's really a matter of getting time to work on it :D

The main addition I want to make to it is the initial animation that occurs in Engage. If you're not concerned with this, I can share the file with you now and you're welcome to test it out with your project.

Just let me know!

Christine

Ok, I've added some entrance animations. They're obviously not exactly the same as the Engage interaction, but they're getting close to what I want.

Demo

I'm attaching the file, as well. Just in case anyone wants to take a look, or try out the example with a project.

Keep in mind that right now, most text labels are available in object states. You'll need to edit the states to modify the text.

I still have a few things I want to iron out. So, if you have any input, or want to see something that the Engage interaction offers and I've missed, please let me know!

fabulous! - thanks!

another question I have one I'm trying to recreate where I want a little tab to appear if they hover over the button 1 - hover over tab appears - click on button 1 and the text comes up - I have these on separate layers but it seems the button will only function for one trigger.  Is this the issue - sorry for a newbie question

Hi Christine!

I love this pyramid interaction you built and was trying to modify it for a project, but there are a couple things I'm having trouble changing - can you help? I was able to change the colors of the segments on the Main Slide and all the layers, but can't figure out how to click on the animations in the Entrance layer.  It seems like they are locked or something, but I can't figure out how to unlock them. The other thing I want to change is the color of the arrows, but I'm not able to click on them either. Do you have any suggestions?

Looking forward to using this in my project! THANKS!

Hi Gina,

Are you referring to the arrows at the top right of the interaction, or the arrows that branch out to the different sections?

I believe you're referring to the "Description" arrows (the green ones), correct? If so, you'll actually need to edit the state for the "Description" rectangle. You may want to select this in the timeline, as it appears behind the "Description Text" and it may be difficult to select in the slide.

Let me know if you have any trouble with this :)

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Just wanted to let you know I "stole" part of your pyramid interaction for a concept I'm working on for a client. As my brain was tick tick ticking about how to build this, I remembered that you were working on a pyramid animaation, so I did quick google search (pyramid animations site:community.articulate.com) and...ta da!

I wasn't looking for the "engage" part, so I actually did a takeoff on yours. So much easier than starting from scratch! Tx!
