Error: File cannot be opened

May 24, 2013

When i try to open a file, i am getting a message saying the file cannot be opened. It may have been created in a newer version?

Can you please help me to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Chip,

It’s a longstory, but to cut it short, I was falling short of memory while saving mystoryline file. I was facing this problem for a week. So, our technical supportstaff took over my machine to make some space available. In the course ofaction, my storyline folder (where my project files are stored) wasinadvertently deleted. So, he retrieved the files. when i tried to open mycurrent project file, I got this message about the file may be created using anewer version of Storyline.

I also triedopening some earlier projects of mine. These files open without any problem. So, the technical person, first installed the new updates. Even after that, when the file did not open, he uninstalled and re-installed Storyline. Thenagain I tried to open the latest project file on which I am currently working. It did not open. So, I guess that the file must be corrupted, because some ofmy other types of files which were recovered have also been corrupted.

Now, is there anyway to repair the corrupted file?

Thanks andregards,

Anagha

Hi Geert,

Unfortunately, I could open only file in this way. i have 4 such project files which have a problem while opening. i get the following error message now while importing these files:

I have checked and  changed the access rights to all the files that get this problem.

Can you please suggest anything else that can help me.

Anybody else, if you can help me in any way, i will be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Anagha,

have  try the follwing

  • Shut down and restart your computer (might be some memory that is not been properly released)
  • try opening them again

if the above doesn't work

  • copy the files to you C-drive
  • try opening them

if the above doesn't work

  • open a new project and import themas you did with the first project file

In the meantime, which update version of SL are you using (last week Update 3 came out)

Cheers

geert
