Error when publishing to Word
Feb 19, 2014
I have published an earlier version of a Storyline module to Word for review, but when I attempt to publish it again, I get the error message: "The folder [module name] output is read-only, being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource.
I have saved the module under a different name, tried saving the published version under a different name and different location but still get the error message.

Hi Deborah and welcome to Heroes!
You mentioned saving it under a different name, but did you also look at the title within the publish window:
Yes I have changed the title name and the location of the folder to save it into.
Hi Deborah,
When you changed the folder, you're still saving to a local drive, correct? Do you have the other instance of the Storyline word document open while publishing? I'm curious if you could do a "save as" on the Storyline file, and then try publishing that version? If you'd like to share the Storyline file with us I'm happy to try following the same steps you took to publish two versions of the course to Word.
I think you may have solved the problem - due to IT restrictions I cannot save anything to my local drive. I don't know what happened the first time I published but it worked and now nothing does. So I have raised this with our IT dept to see if the restrictions can be removed.
Hi Deborah,
Thanks for the update, and hopefully your IT team will help you around these restrictions. You may want to share with them this support article on needing to save, edit and publish Storyline files to your local drive.
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for that link, I will pass this on.
Does anyone else have this same problem that has found a workaround?
Or can anyone provide information that I can pass onto IT that explains why Storyline needs to be on the local drive?
Regards,
Deborah
Hi Deborah,
The other documentation we provide is in regards to installing Storyline on a local drive here, and Storyline was not designed to work on a network or shared drive, and therefore can cause odd behavior.
I'm getting exactly the same problem but unlike Deborah I can't fix it. It publishes in all other formats OK but not the Word version. I have tried saving to small file name with no characters and publishing to local drive but nothing works. Even tried just creating a very simple Articulate file and trying to publish that but I still get the error message. Annoyingly I know it's worked in the past but just not working now. Any other suggestions?
Hi Sian and welcome to Heroes!
Have you tried conducting the repair of Storyline as detailed here?
