Exporting .Story files to Drive locations for Articulate Storyline 2

Feb 28, 2017

Hi All,

I have been developing and saving modules for a number of months and my computer requires a re-build.  I am concerned that if the files in My Articulate projects disappear, will the duplicate copy I have saved in my other drive be a full version and be able to be opened and used.  I ask this because I am still getting my head around how Articulate saves.  I had an incident over Xmas break when I tried to access the projects in my other drive I got error messages.  Please help with any suggestions.  Thank you :-)

Hi Gail

It is recommended that you work locally on your C: drive and then choose to save a backup to dropbox or external drive/USB/Network but not work on the files from there.

Before the rebuild you could save all your .story files to an external drive and then when the rebuild has finished put them back onto your C:drive when you need to work on them.

Hi Gail,

I'd echo Wendy's comments, and just make sure that when you transfer the files to an external drive they are closed and not open/running on your computer. You can follow the same steps here for collaborating on a file. We always recommend editing and working on the files from your local drive, as the network/shared drives or USBs can cause issues with latency and ultimately lead to file corruption.

Good luck with the computer rebuild - you'll also want to look at deactivating Storyline before you rebuild, as you'll need to install and activate on the new computer set up as well. Going through the deactivation process will make sure you don't hit our "exceeded activations" error if Storyline recognizes it as a new computer.
