Failure to record completions

Apr 23, 2019

I've had three clients that host courses built with SL 360 complain that a percentage of learners who completed the course do not show up as completed.

It is easy to dismiss this as network/LMS error but the frequency and numbers are disturbing and suggest there may be something more to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SL 360 doesn't periodically check the LMS connection (via scorm) during the course. If it did, a notification to the learner would be appropriate if there were a connectivity issue.

So, if something interrupted the connection, it would lead to learners finishing a course believing that completion was stored on the LMS?

Someone might point out that the learner could interrogate the LMS after-the-fact. Yes, that is possible, but the learner had no reason to doubt.

Articulate could improve the UI of SL 360 by notifying the learner that completion was recorded successfully.   SCORM supports that kind of interrogation.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for sharing the details of what your client has run into.

We do have some instructions here for notifying customers of connectivity issues, but it is specific to Flash output at this time.

We have a feature request to do the same for HTML5 output as well and I will add this conversation to the report so that we can share any updates with you here.

Hi Sam,

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 69, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the enhancements we've included is:

Notify learners when they lose their internet connection so they don't lose their progress.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!
