File Far, Far too big

Aug 29, 2012

So, I don't know if it's just my computer that can't handle it or what, but I have come to the horrible realization that one of the training's I am working on (the first which I have used screen recordings for) is just too big.  I should have split it into four parts, I realize now, but I wasn't thinking at the time.

Now the problem is, I can't seem to find any way to break it into smaller pieces.  It won't export, it just crashes.  I can't copy slides, it crashes.

Is there any hope, or will I be forced to start over?

Thanks.

Hi Ashley-

I'm really sorry this is happening. One thing you can do is close out of your current projects. Then, create a brand new project, save it and import your original project.

When you import Storyline files, you can choose which slides to import. I'd suggest importing a full scene for starters. Here's more on importing scenes: http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/importing-from-another-storyline-project.aspx

Since your current project is crashing, we'd really like to take a look at it. Is there any chance you can submit a ticket and share the .story file with us?

And please let us know if importing scenes doesn't work.

I don't know if I can send you the .story file.  I'll have to check with my supervisor.

At any rate, I did manage to export an (un) finished copy just now.  It appears to be working fine.  It's just incredibly hard to edit this .story file in the state it's currently in.

I attempted to import one scene at a time into a different .story file.  What happened was only the slides without screen recordings, or anything pertaining to screen recordings (such as try mode slides) simply would not import.  I tried importing one individual slide of a Try Mode segment and nothing.

Hi Ashley,

I noticed that, when I was working on our network drive my file got bigger and bigger to a point where it was almost unbelievable.

I have copied my files to the local drive, opened and saved and most of them when down half the previous size.

Could that be the case with your files?

Hope it helps, have a nice day!

Annie
