file is being used by another process
Dec 07, 2012
I am currently creating a storyline course that is the second lesson in a series. As such, I am reusing a lot of pictures and clip art that I created for lesson 1. The problem is this:
I can open up Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 with no problems. I can switch from Lesson 2 to Lesson 1 with no problems. But when I try to open lesson 2 again, I get the following error:
"The file 'filename' is being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource."
This error message will persist until I restart my computer. Closing and reopening storyline does not fix the problem. I have not downloaded any "rogue" templates. I am the only one who uses this laptop, almost exclusively on my home network.
Please help.

Hi Louise,
It looks like I just responded to you over here - I've copied the information below:
You could also look at searching through your temp files for an earlier version of it.
Sorry Louise - I didn't see the second page here. If you're still struggling I think it would be best to work with our Support team.
I can't thank you enough for this...I thought I'd lost my entire project due to this error message, then the temp folder trick worked and brought it back to life. THANK YOU!
So happy to hear that Kelly - and you'll want to ensure you're following the other troubleshooting steps in terms of working locally.
This was extremely helpful. It was the immediate fix. I knew I could somehow manipulate the .tmp I just didn't know exactly how.
Many many thanks!
Ah, happy to hear that Chandelle!
Ashely's advice above about looking for a temporary copy worked for me. Very good tip - thanks, Steve.
Happy that helped Steve and thanks for the update!
I was able to recover mine as well! Thank you, Ashley.
Glad this also helped you, Patty! Thanks for letting us know.
Hello, I've tried all the above options is any other options. It is giving me the same error message for my last 2 version of the story I created.
Hi Robyn,
I'm sure it's frustrating to go through all those steps, and still be stuck! Let's have you work directly with our Support Team to determine where things went wrong and next steps.
I'll open that case for you, so you should see an email notification shortly!

Hi there,
The solution to find app data doesn’t work anymore, as Windows might have upgraded their file systems. I’m facing the same issue, any more ideas please!?
