Font issue in Portugal Language with Storyline 2

Feb 28, 2017

We are facing a letter spacing issue within the word in stroyline2. We have tried following points:

1)      Tried different font-families but the issue remains. The characters in which spacing issue occurs changes in different fonts.

2)      Tried copying the content into Notepad/ WordPad but the issue remains.

3)      Tried changing some of the settings in storyline to resolve the issue but the issue remains.

Please suggest us if any other options are available for resolving this issue.

Hi Dushyant,

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling through some font issues, and we're aware of some behaviors with spacing and font kerning that plague Storyline 2 with some specific fonts and sizes. So I'd want to take a look at the examples of your course and how it's appearing to confirm it's the same thing. You mentioned copying it into Notepad, and my guess was that you then copied that back into Storyline to double check that it was stripping out any formatting? Or was the spacing issue also something you saw in Notepad?

If you're able to share a copy of your .story file, any screenshots noting the odd spacing of characters and information on which font(s) you're using that'll be helpful for our team to confirm it's the same thing. The team is still exploring this issue, so I'll be able to keep you posted here once we've got more information to share!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply.

Please find below the attached storyline file.

Course is created with Arial font. although we have tried chaging the font to below mention fonts, but not able to resolve issue. Your early response is highly appreciated.

Hi Dushyant,

Thanks for sharing a copy of the file here. It does match what we've seen previously with Storyline 2 and the font kerning, and it's based on how letters are mapped to the slide stage and then that'll also impact how they display upon publish. A workaround a few other users in ELH shared to lessen the impact of the kerning is to adjust the font sizing, as a little bit larger has shown better results, so even something as simple as changing from pt. 14 to 15 showed a better result on the first slide I looked at for letters such as the "v" that were oddly space but didn't change the combination of letters such as "íc", likely because of the additional spacing for the accented character.

We're continuing to dig into this issue and any possible solutions, so I've included this forum discussion in the report with my team so that I can update you here once there is additional info. We’ll share as much as we can, as soon as we can.
