Formatting Storyline for a mobile-first course

Feb 13, 2024

I need to create a course with a "user satisfaction" survey at the end, and the course will be primarily accessed with mobile devices.

For a mobile-first course, I would typically use Rise, but survey questions are not possible within Rise.
Embedding a 3rd-party survey is not an option for my organization.

It seems like the only option I'm left with is to create the entire course in Storyline, which is not ideal for a mobile-first product...does anyone have any tips for making a Storyline course as mobile-friendly as possible? I think I will need to make all of the page elements larger than usual...if anyone has any experience or examples to share I'd love to see them.

Thanks!

Hi John, like you said, SL and mobile are not great, but you are approaching it the correct way.

I would recommend as you said, larger elements and fonts so it is legible on smaller devices. Ensure buttons are a good size and not too close to each other, so a user can select the button they intend to.

I would go for a portrait design so that the user doesn't have to rotate their phone. Getting the aspect ratio right to support the different devices will be key. This may be a bit of trial and error. I'm sure you are aware of these, but use your browser develop tools to test the content in target device sizes.

Also, be aware, and warn others, that it's going to look a bit sh@thouse on larger devices :)
