Getting an error popup while saving an articulate storyline file

Jul 24, 2014

Hi,

I have a storyline file placed on the desktop. When I made some changes in this file and tried to save it, I am getting the following error:

The project file could not be saved.

Your system appears to be low on memory. Please close any other programs and try again.

After that I have deleted all the temporary files, emptied the recycle bin, and closed all other programs running on the system.

Now I am getting another error:

The project file could not be saved. Parameter is not valid.

Please suggest what should I do next.

Hi Pravin,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble! I realize you're working from your desktop, but you may also want to try to check the file name(s):

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Please make sure you're running the most recent version of Storyline. Articulate Storyline Update 6 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and HTML5 output enhancements. Click here for details.

If this only happens with a specific file, try importing the content from the file into a new, blank project.

Also, please make sure you're using this method to import - try to avoid copying and pasting your slides if possible.

If you're still having trouble with this, please let us know.

Thanks!

Hi Christine, I have updated my Storyline with "Update 6" patch released by storyline but still I am unable to save the file. It is showing me the error "The project file could not be saved. Parameter is not valid."

Please suggest what should I do now.The file I am working on is around 600 MB (94 slides).

Hi Pravin,

Did you check into Christine's other suggestions in regards to ensuring your working locally, with a file name that doesn't include special characters, accents or symbols, and saving to a file path that is below the 256 character limit?

Next, I'd try to see if you can import individual scenes or slides into a new project and save after each attempt. Going through this method will allow you to see if there is one particular slide or scene that is causing the problem with saving. If you're able to isolate it to that particular element you may need to rebuild just that or look to see if there could be anything else on the slide causing issues such as an image with a file name that doesn't adhere to the above mentioned elements.

Hi Pravin,

I'm having the same issue. I was trying to save my Articulate Storyline 2 Output folder to our sharepoint server and I got an error message that stated that one of my file names contained invalid characters. Keep in mind, the software generates these file names, not me. I can see which 2 files have the invalid characters, which are these {}. These two slides contain embed codes for two videos. The file name seems to be using part of the embed code: style="width: 480px; height: 430px;" and changing the " to {. See the attached image. When I changed the file name to remove the invalid characters, my videos won't play.

Any suggestions on what to do? I can upload my storyline content to my Google Drive with no problem, but it is external and I'm trying to deliver my storyline generated training to an internal (my company) audience using an internal server.
