Hearing double audio

Why doesn't audio from the base layer stop when the learner clicks Next before the base layer audio finishes? Both audios -- from base layer and the next layer -- play at the same time? Shouldn't the base layer automatically stop when Next is clicked?

    I found a thread that might be helpful for you, but it looks to be pretty dated. Here's a more recent possible solution.
