Help! Courses Won't Complete - Sometimes
Sep 28, 2018
hi all,
My client has a few old courses that some users say won't load, get stuck or won't complete on old Expertus LMS and now in Cornerstone. Can anyone offer browser version advice? I'm thinking to republish as html5 (yes, they are still in Flash); thoughts? One course was built in Presenter, the others are Storyline.
She says:
Chrome – Some users can only hear audio; no visuals. Some users report it won’t even open in Chrome – just gets stuck with the spinning wheel.
IE – Users report it gets stuck at certain sections (all over the map); that scroll bars disappear on sections where it says to scroll down to continue. Also, when users try to resume the training, it won’t let them.

Hey Beth,
Sorry to hear your learners are running into those roadblocks! Were these courses published with older versions of Presenter and Chrome? I think your idea to republish them is a good start.
Also, it's helpful to test the courses in another LMS environment to compare how it behaves there. SCORM Cloud is an excellent tool since it's industry standard for LMS testing, and it's free!

Hi Alyssa,
thanks for the reply. I did test on SCORM cloud and the manifest is fine.
The course in question was built using Presenter - it's old I know but the client can't update/upgrade yet. I am using the latest version of Chrome and the IE version is 10.0.9. It plays perfectly as a web object, it gets stuck when I publish for LMS.
Can I remove the html files from the zipped production package and keep the html5 output? Will that mess anything else up?
I've uploaded the course for you to see if you can figure anything out.
Oops - here's the course
Hey Beth,
I'm not seeing a file attached here.
Are you replying via e-mail perhaps? That will not allow the attachments to come through to the forums.
Be sure to click 'View' in your e-mail to come directly to the conversation and you can utilize the 'Add Attachment' option in the Reply window here:
Oops! Thanks for the tip. I convinced my client to upgrade the course to Storyline so hopefully problem solved for now. However, this course will not mark as complete on the LMS. The manifest shows error free in the scorm cloud. I'e tried it with and without an Exit button and it doesn't complete either way. Suing Chrome latest version, LMS is Cornerstone.
One thing I have noticed is that none of the courses will automatically launch; I have to "click here" to open in a separate window before they play.
Thoughts?
Hey Beth,
Thanks so much for those additional details.
It looks like you've shared the zipped published output, but the .story project file that you worked on before publishing would be more helpful :)
If you cannot share it here in the forums, you are welcome to share here privately.
Sorry! Here is a link to the story file that won't complete with or without the Exit feature. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the link to Survey Monkey on the last screen?

The file is too large to email so I've shared it via Drop Box
Hello, Beth! I just tried your Dropbox link, and I got a message saying that the file path doesn't exist.
You mentioned the course is too large to send via our case form. In Storyline, could you do File >> Save As to create a copy of the course? Then, in the copy, delete some of the scenes to make the file smaller. All we really need to test is the Exit feature on the last slide anyway. 🙂
Well, I updated the course into Storyline 360. The Exit button works and the course marks as complete. However, two imported Engage screens are not interactive - they are either displayed like a flat ppt slide or are blank. Take a look at 1.3 and 1.12 if you would, and let me know what's up?
I can edit the Engage screens within the course so I know they are really Engage tabs. Thanks!
Hi Beth!
You're right -- I also saw a blank slide where the Engage interaction should be when I tested your file in SCORM Cloud (a tool for LMS testing). This shouldn't happen, so I'm going to do some more digging to find out what's going on. As soon as I know more, I'll pop back in to pass the information along to you!
Thanks, Alyssa. I recreated them in 360 so the client could publish. But a solution would be great as they have many more courses to upgrade.
Can you remove the course from public view if it is? Realized too late it should not be out there. My bad.

Hi Beth!
Thanks for letting me know that upgrading the Engage files to Engage 360 did the trick. So does that mean they were originally created in Engage '13?
You can click here to open the discussion, then click Edit to remove your file from your recent post.
I need to clarify:
the import from Enage 13 to Storyline 360 did not render properly. they are blank or not interactive as you saw
I rebuilt the screens manually in 360.
Got it, Beth! Thank you for clarifying!
