Help for Recovery

Jun 09, 2016

I recently completed and published my first Storyline project and sent the files off to be put into our LMS. Everything went well until I saw that I needed to make a small edit to the course. I went to My Articulate Projects and the file was gone! I must have accidentally deleted it.  I still have the published files that I had sent via Drop Box, but I don't know how to get them back into Storyline so I can work with it.

Is there any help for me?  Otherwise, I'm screwed. :(

Hi Sandra,

There isn't a way to convert published output into a .story file again - you may want to check your temp files to see if there is a back up copy there, or reach out to your IT team to see if they could help you with a restore point to when you previously had the file on your system.

Here's how to check your temp files:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
