Help required - User folder stopping published functionality

Sep 02, 2014

Hi, need some urgent help, we've built the following...

Business simulation using Storyline to build the front end. This uses javascript triggers to read and write data to various excel files in the back end, which then uses VBA and exports images to C:\Temp folder which are then picked up as webobjects back into the storyline front end.

Published as LMS but with external files and Webobjects amended to refer to C drive directly.

All clever stuff, took massive amounts of figuring out and all works beautifully on the machine it was built on.

But the moment I move it to another machine (even with identical file pathing and structure) the Javascript triggers wont run, the webobjects disappear and the hyperlinks to excel dont work.

After a bit of testing i've narrowed it down to it being something to do with your user folder under c:\users as when it is in my user folder (anywhere) it works, the moment i go one level higher (ie directly under c:\users) it stops working.

I figured it could be something to do with security / permissions but i've opened up all the files to full control for everyone and still no joy...

Getting really desperate now as running this for a client in less than a week! any help appreciated!

thanks

Joe

Hello Joe and welcome to Heroes!

Have you tested this file directly through your LMS, or are you just testing locally? We recommend testing this through the LMS directly to make sure things work properly.

Here is some information on publishing and sharing Storyline content. You can also test in the SCORM Cloud which is the industry standard for testing, and is also a free option.

Also, just for reference, here is some information on JavaScript within Storyline.

Hopefully some others within the community can add some information as well.
