Help with Screen Recordings in Legacy Software

Sep 14, 2016

Good Morning,

I've been working with Storyline 2 for a few months now and generally I like it very much. However, I am having an issue with one feature that I'm hoping to get help with.

We are using the software to create eLearning modules for our new Customer Service hires. The system that we use for order entry is old. Very old. As in, based on AS/400, been in use since 1989 old. I can do screen recordings fine but when I try to do the step by step recordings to test the user's knowledge of keystrokes and navigation through the program, Storyline just isn't registering it. To even get it to recognize the fact that I'm typing, I have to click inside the window after every key stroke. This creates two to three slides for each key stroke and even then it doesn't necessarily work. I tried the same function with Adobe Captivate and it worked fine but I'm hoping to find a way to make this work without buying a new software package.

I have attached my latest attempt to this message. Every other slide has a text input box but it takes up the entire screen for some reason. The Hotspot slides are, I believe, where it is registering my mouse clicks. The correct text box entries are supposed to be, in order from 1.2, 7-3-1-GREDE. The answers don't even seem to line up. I could really use some advise here if there is any to give.

Thank you!
Jim A.
