hidden course completion trigger
Sep 29, 2014
I'm tryying to add a course completion trigger to a course which has several sections. I want to do this because i built the course to be a resource for learners going forward. But I still want to get a completion status for those who take it the first time. I tried setting up a true/false variable for each section, then adding a "submit results" trigger on the master slide for when all sections = true. But that didn't work (the sections buttons are also on the master). I don't have an end slide - so there's no "Congrats you completed....etc.
Any ideas anyone?
thanks,
chris

Hi Chris,
What about sending the course completion information to your LMS either by number of slides viewed or using a particular slide that they need to visit?
Thanks Ashley but that won't work. i have a set of 7 tabs across the left side to navigate to different sections of the application training-non-linear style. This is so it can be used as a resource for future access. However, i do want to get a course completion for 1st time access. I have created check marks to show when a tab has been accessed and applied a true/false variable to each section (defaulting to false). but without a single completion/results slide, I can't get a completion. I thought i could set up a results slide that is part of the project, but not able to be accessed, then set a "submit results" trigger upon all variables changing to "true.' Do you think this would work - i haven't tried it yet.
thanks.
Hi Chris,
Setting up the results slide - with the question slide as mentioned in that tutorial would be the method I would choose. You could set the button on the question slide to be selected based on the value of those variables and then submit that to the results slide. The issue will be that the user will need to "visit" these slides. You can mask them to not look like the questions/results and even move elements off the stage so that Storyline can still access them but they're not visible. You can also add triggers to automatically jump to the next slide - for example when the timeline starts...but you'll just want to make sure that comes *after* any triggers to adjust the state of objects or variables.
What Chris (and others I've found after Googling "using variables for course completion") wants to do is exactly what I want. I'm going to try this ... combo solution that Chris and Ashley came up with. I think I'll create the question and results slide but "hide" them by having a layer appear over them that hides the base layer. Do you think that would work?
Chris ... did you ever test this successfully?

Hi Jay, I just came across this discussion. Did your idea work? I don’t want to add 2 new slides to the interaction in order to trigger completion, as this makes it more complex for the user.
Is it possible to have the Complete button on my main interaction slide (Base Layer) and not use a Result slide?
Meaning, just do the following:
Would that work?
Thanks!
Yael
Hello Yael! Storyline will submit course completion to an LMS either when landing on a results slide or when achieving the minimum number of slides viewed. So you can submit the interaction with the complete button, but your user should still land on a results slide of some sort (even if masked not to appear as such), so that the results can be submitted to the LMS.
You can use the Contact Me option on Jay's profile to reach out to him, in case he isn't subscribed to this discussion any longer. Maybe he'll have some specifics he can share on his final setup!
Hi Crystal, thanks so much for your reply. I will try it out :)
Thanks,
Yael
Hi!
I have an issue with the replay button in the slides particularly which consists videos. After viewing the video in a full screen mode (lightbox slide), when clicked on replay icon, i am unable to replay the slide again if the video is played in normal mode.
Is there anyway to fix this issue.
Many Thanks in advance.

Hi Sandeep,
This forum discussion is a bit older and about a course completion trigger, which seems a bit different than your issue with the video replaying.
