the transparency of the speechbubble with text is set to 40% - that's why text on the base layer is visible. Change the transparency to 0%.
But there's also another problem: I've noticed the text boxes on the base layer start to lay one on another once the full text button is clicked. I've created another layer with the same interaction and it worked fine
