Hotspots in storyline

Dec 04, 2012

I made my hotspot in storyline but cant figure out how to put words to my hotspot for folks to get the information that theyshould when they click the hotspot.  I watched the tutorial twice but I didnt see in the tutorial where it shows how you get that txt to appear and where you write that text for the hotspot.

Thanks

Kathleen

It sounds like you need to create a new layer to display the text you want (the layer panel is the one in the lower right).  After creating your layer you then need to use the trigger panel to create a trigger to display that Layer.  The logic will probably be something like this...

Show Layer: User Info

When: User clicks Hotspot 1

Hi Forrest and Christine, thanks for this information. I am having alot of trouble with the layers.  I created the scene from the notebook template and on one of my slides I have hotspots, however, the third topic button on the left goes away after one of the hotspots for the topic button above it gets clicked.  I have reviewed this and reviewed the settings and I have the eyeball open to say that I want this layer displayed and even with that, it goes away.   Now my first topic button remains throughout and when I check, all the same things are checked for this first topic button that are checked for the third, but the third won't stay on the page meaning, no one can click on it to learn that content once the topic button before it is clicked and a hotspot is clicked onto it. I attached the issue sequence since I cant figure this out..

Awesome, thanks for the file Kathleen!

I just took a look and all of the little buttons are working for me. I've tried clicking them in different order, to see if that changes anything, but they all seem to function and pull up the info panel on the left.

Take a look. Let me know if you see the same problem, maybe I'm missing something.

How are you viewing the published version? Are you uploading this to a web server or LMS before viewing it, or are you viewing it locally? If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Hi Christine:

Nope I still see the same issue.  After you click on a hotspot from Types of parking and then click types of parking to go back to the page with all the hotspots, the parking enforcement tab goes away and the content cannot be accessed.

On top of this issue,  have another issue.  I tried to reuse the template this scene is in for the next scene and I cannot overwrite the tabes labeled bonus, flexible pay etc....When I first downloaded it, I could change these and now I cannot.  I am so frustrated.

Hi Kathleen,

Sorry for the frustration! I see exactly what you're talking about now. It looks like the images for the other sections were hidden under "Base Layer Objects".

Take a look:

I've gone through and changed this, so they show up on all layers, just so you get an idea of how they're hidden. You can see the published version here and I'll also attach the updated version, if you want a closer look at what I changed.

Let me know if that works for you.

Thank you Christine. This worked and I cant thank you enough. One more and I hope I can leave you be for a bit...I cant change the names of the tabs on this template. I was able to the first time i used it and now I cannot. Any advice. I have attached the screenshot. I viewed the link you sent me and that doesn't seem to be helping me with this one.  When I change picture also, the words remain on the new graphic, which isn't helpful but the memo paper goes away.  So there must be a way to swap out the words, I cant figure this out, but I was able to do it the first time I used the template.  not sure why.

Thanks alot!
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen!

I'm thinking it may be similar to this issue. Is this the same .story file that you last sent or an updated version? If you want to post it, I can take a look.

Alternatively, you can try to create a new layer and copy all of the contents into that layer and give it the new name. I know it's not ideal, but it might be a workaround for the moment

I hope your day is going well!

Christine
