How do I take a slide layer from one story, and make it a slide of its own in another story?

The title says it all, pretty much: how do I take a slide layer from one story, and make it a slide of its own in another story file?

I'm a relatively inexperienced user, and I'm still at the stage where I'm editing existing story files and making small changes.  But I'm trying to take a slide layer from a more complicated project and make it its own slide in a simpler one.

I inserted a new slide in the new project, and was able to copy and paste the desired layer into it, but the new slide has a blank base layer that I can't seem to get rid of.  Can I designate the layer I copied as the base layer?  That would seem to be the solution, but I can't seem to find out how to do that.

Hey John!

The easiest way to accomplish this would be to import the slide to your new project. First, you want to open the story file you want to copy the slide to. From there, you want to click on File, then Import, and click Storyline.  On the next window, you'll want to navigate to the file you want to copy the slide from, select it, and click Open. On the following window, you should be able to select the slide you want to copy. You can also choose to insert the slide into the current scene or to a new one. The drop box for this is towards the bottom left of the window. Once you've made your choice, click on Import and you should be good to go!

Hopefully this helps! Good luck!

Actually, you can't make the layer into the base layer, but on the layer, you can CTRL-A to select all, and CTRL-C to copy everything. Switch to the base, and CTRL-V to paste everything from the layer to the base. You may find that some of the triggers now say unassigned, so you will need to go through and reassign them, but it's fairly easy and intuitive.
