How to add audio controls to an element or a slide?

Apr 25, 2024

Hello Storyline developers,

How can I add audio controls to an element or a slide?

I know how I can add a trigger to an element to play an audio file, but how can I add audio controls?

I would like to achieve the following:

  • Show a start/stop button (ideally in the element clicked on)
  • An animation that the audio is played (ideally in the element clicked on)
  • Show a seek bar (ideally in the element clicked on)(not necessarily, but it would be nice)

I know I can able the slide seek bar on a a specific slide, but this one already starts 'playing' (not the audio but the 'slide') when the slide is opened. How can I stop this seek bar for automatically 'playing' and only start playing when an audio file is being played? What is the use of the slide seek bar anyway?

And is an animation when an audio file is being played, possible?

If you add your audio to a layer, rather than your base slide, then you can control the audio via triggers, and ignore the seek bar which can mess things up. This means you can control your animation and audio seperately.
To play/pause, use the trigger "pause media".
To stop it, hide the layer.
To play it, show the layer.

Hello Andrew,

Thank your for your feedback! I managed to create a slide with a play/pauzse button to toggle the audio! So that works now! Instead of layers, I added a state to an image.

I just discovered that Articulate Storyline also supports animated GIFs, so I will add an animated sound icon, so that the user knows that a sound is playing.

Thanks for thinking along!
