How to have a single slide course marked complete in Storyline 3

Oct 11, 2019

We'd like to upload a video to our LMS and track who is accessing it and who finishes viewing it. Is there a way to do this using Storyline 3? I would have thought we could just create a trigger near the end of the video, but there seems to be no way of submitting course completing that doesn't require the creation of a quiz and a results slide. We don't have - or want - Storyline 360, but it seems that this is the only version that will allow this sort of functionality.

Hi Andrew.

We do this quite often and achieve it in the following way (most of the work is done by the LMS):

  • SL3/360 file that is three slides (introduction, video, conclusion slide with exit course button. Publish as SCORM with 'slides viewed (3)' as the required tracking and 'passed/incomplete' for LMS Reporting.
  • In our LMS (Totara) we upload the SCORM and also create a quiz activity.
  • Our quiz activity is what we call a Learner Acknowledgement. Its one question (yes/no) that says 'I acknowledge I have read and understood......."
  • Set course completion requirements in LMS as Quiz and SCORM

We only use 'slides viewed' for SL tracking and dont ever pass quiz grades from SL into our LMS. We prefer to use native grades and LMS modules for scores. In our LMS we can run reports to see who has completed specific activities and courses, which shows us the results you are asking for as you can see who is 'in progress' and who has 'completed' the course.

I'm not sure if that solution will work for you, and sorry its not a Storyline based solution, but it might be worth looking at LMS solutions if you can't do it natively in Storyline.
