How to replay a layer as an option, not automatically

Nov 16, 2023

Hi!

The SME for my course requested this: In general for the course: can we make sure we can replay a slide when it has already been viewed once?  On some slides 'previous' button don't work.

This is an issue with the slides with layers. I think what the SME means is they want the learner to be able to replay any slide (including layers), but not make them play automatically.

What do you suggest? I'm open to any good ideas.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Best,

Lisa

It sounds like you need to set the slide properties to Reset to initial State. Generally speaking, when you return to it, the interactions and layers will replay from the start.

If you currently have layers that show automatically, but want them to not show automatically, you will need to have some mechanism for a learner to show them. In that case, you may want a shape the learner can click.

Give the shape an initial state of hidden. When the slide is finished, the last thing before jumping to the next slide, set the state of the shape to Normal.  Set the slide to Return to saved state, and the shape will show on return.

Lots of moving parts and possibilities here. Perhaps attaching a sample slide can get some more specific ideas.

Hi Lisa,

Glad to see that Walt was able to share some suggestions that you can try out. I've attached a sample project file which contains a slide that uses the 'Reset to initial state' behavior combined with the 'Pause timeline' trigger to allow users to view layers that do not automatically start, multiple times.

Hope this helps!
