HTML Output leads to garbled characters in text

Apr 21, 2017

I'm having this weird issue with Storyline 360. When I play through my published course, (using HTML5), everything looks normal.

When I close the course and come back, the text appears garbled throughout the entire course. You can see what I mean from the screenshot. I cannot upload the file publicly as I am under NDA, but the screenshot below shows exactly the problem.

Does anyone know what the issue might be? Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Hey Robert,

Thanks for including that screenshot - we definitely wouldn't expect that to happen! Is it possible that you’re working from somewhere other than your local C: drive?  Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause a few different problems, and you can read more about that here.

Also, can you tell me more about how you published the file?

  • Did you publish for Web, LMS, or Articulate 360?
  • Where did you upload the published content before you tested it?

Hm, interesting. Thanks for that context.

From here, try testing the published content in SCORM Cloud. We generally compare the behavior in SCORM Cloud to your LMS experience to try to parse out file issues versus LMS issues.  You can create a free account right here!

Let me know if you see the same thing happening in SCORM Cloud. I'll be standing by!

Hi Creative Director,

Sorry you're hitting this, as well. Have you tried testing your course in SCORM Cloud yet? If you see the same problem there, we'll want to take a closer look at your file.

Also, check the font download option in Internet Explorer settings--it should be 'Enabled'. That setting made a difference for some of the folks in this thread.

Hi Creative Director! I just responded to you here and it is certainly hard to track down issues when you cannot replicate them. As I shared in the previous thread, you may want to reach out to your LMS team and feel free to work directly with our team here if you need us to dig a bit deeper.

I see that Todd did file a support case and was going to follow up with his LMS as he was unable to replicate in SCORM Cloud as well.
