HTML5 export

Apr 02, 2013

Hi everyone, I made a bit of a schoolgirl error relying on HTML5 publishing capabilities of SL without evaluating earlier on and launching into a project with a tool that I'm now finding very limiting when it comes to publishing. Today I went and tried to tick off a technical requirements document, and am pretty disappointed (read: horrified) to see that the most rudimentary things seem to be missing. I've noted the problem of missing audio elsewhere in the forum, something I discovered for myself recently. Another requirement is that text is selectable. Images need to have ALT text, but I'm not even able to hover with my mouse. I can confirm that I opened the html5 version of the output story file, and am not viewing the default story.htm version. When doing a View source, I can't make much sense of the code either. There are a lot of

s that don't hold anything that makes sense. I guess to list all my problems would be too much. My question is more about the logic of the output. Where is it keeping the actual content, eg text boxes or navigation links. How is it all put together. It's not much more usual than the Flash version right now, unless I'm missing something major. My project is in jeopardy, and I may have to resort to buying another expensive tool and revert back to adobe elearning suite. :(

Hi Elke,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into so many issues with HTML5. You're right in your evaluation that it's still pretty limited in terms of 508 compliance, and many other features don't work as well as Flash either because HTML5 is still an immature and moving target. If you haven't already, it may help to take a look at our comparison guide over here. You'll probably want to try testing your courses on the most compliant browser possible, also, to help you get the most out of your course. HTML5 Test is a great site to help with that.

I'm afraid I won't be able to assist you in locating published files, but if you're able to list some of your major concerns with the HTML5 output, the community may be able to help out
