HTML5 problems (variable references and buttons)

I am having problems with html5 :
1) I use the variable references in text boxes (because I need what is typed to appear to appear in multiple places in the course). This works well in the regular export and in the html5 export in Internet Explorer, but the variable references do not transfer back and forth across in the html5 export in Firefox or Chrome.
2) Buttons on a page work the first time that they are clicked but not the second time (unless you leave the page and come back). On the same page, I have interactive text boxes and they work well all of the time. This is a problem in all three browsers - Firefox, Chrome and Explorer.
Help please!

Hi Gail!
Do you have a .story file that you'd like us to take a look at to better understand the issue you are reporting here?
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Dear Leslie,
Thank you so much for getting back to me!! Here is a link for a partial
example of the case that I am creating:

Hi Gail!
Thanks for sharing the file and allowing me to take a look.
I published the content:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/sto_1b2rekp373ndmbskkdhe13r39/story.html
I am not seeing an issue with the variable text or the buttons. Do you see an issue with my published output? If so, could you explain how to reproduce the issue in case I'm not understanding.
Hi Leslie,
The "Submit" button doesn't work on this. (It should activate when two or
three of the choices on the right are highlighted.)
Also, I apologize. I didn't realize that the generic export was also html
5. The problem is in the pure html file (no flash) called
story
Hi Gail. I apologize. I didn't see a Submit button anywhere in your course. What slide are you referring to and how do I recreate?
A colleague pointed out that it is on Slide 2, but looks like you are controlling all of this functionality with JavaScript, which is not something I can assist in supporting.
Hopefully someone in the community will be able to chime in and assist here.
Hi Leslie,
The submit button is on the Differential Diagnosis Page (towards the bottom left). It should be disabled when the page starts and enabled as long as the user has two or three choices made.
Thanks again for looking into this :).
Sincerely,
Gail

Hi Gail - looks like our responses may be crossing up. Looks like you are replying via e-mail as well. Be sure to pop into the forums via the view option in the notification so that you can see all of the conversation here.
I did end up seeing the button, but looks like all of it is driven by JavaScript, which is not something I can assist in supporting.
Hmmmm... actually the Javascript works properly in both versions of the exported file bu let's try again with a different example (attached)- no javascript with two simple native articulate storyline pages. In the story_html5.html version, the variable reference still does not go back and forth in all browsers and the Demo, Expert and Correct button controls do not work a second time in all browsers. Thanks for sticking with this :).
Hi Gail!
Running out of day here, but I didn't want you to think that I was not looking at this.
I'm only seeing the issue in the HTML5 output and I believe that is what you were sharing above as well. I have not drilled down to understand why or if I can re-create the issue you are experiencing though.
Are you able to re-create the issue in a new file?
If you need assistance before I can get back to this next week, you may want to reach out here.
I have submitted a case with a simple example. Thanks for the link.
Thanks for letting me know you've reached out Gail. I see your case (00964557) and I will follow along as well.
Hi Gail! I popped back in to check on your case and it seems that the support team has reached out to QA for further investigation.
Me again.
I just tried your Articulate Storyline 3 - the variable references are still not working in HTML5 only. See sample attached.
Sometimes the variable content transfers back and forth and sometimes it doesn't. It does tend to hang the browser tab.
Any progress on this problem?
Hello Gail,
Thanks for following up with us and updating us on your testing. This info could certainly assist us as we prioritize our development resources. I will update the report to reflect this product impact as well.
I apologize, and to address your question - I do not have a progress update at this time.
Hello again, Gail.
Good news! We fixed the issue you reported where:
Reference Variable in Text Entry Fields is not retained between two slides in the HTML5 output.
Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.
If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
I look forward to trying out the fixes, Leslie – thanks.
Regards,
Gail
