HTML5 SCORM course viewed on ipad - relaunching course issue

Jun 14, 2013

Hi,

I've created a simple course published with HTML5 SCORM (viewing on ipad). Course seem to run as how I expect it to be but when viewing the course from an ipad launching it from our LMS. The course keeps relaunching asking "allow popup" msg.  I kept saying "allow" and then it asks you to continue where you've left off. It works fine but it is annoying that this process can repeat up to 10 time during a 17 slides course.

Any known issue that I can get some help with?

Thanks,

Susie

Hi Susie,

It sounds like a pop-up blocker issue. Are you viewing the course in Safari on the iPad? Try checking the pop-up blocker settings in Safari. You should be able to do this by opening "Settings"> "Safari" and scroll down to the "Block Pop-ups" option. Try changing that to "OFF" and see if you receive the same notice.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

Hi Susie!

Thanks very much for the case number!

I decided to take a look and see if I ran into the same issue on my iPad, and I'm not seeing that error. At this point, I'm not sure if it's a setting on your device, or if it's related to the LMS itself.

I have shared this information with our support team, so they may request a link to the published and uploaded course from the LMS for testing.

I'll keep an eye on this and try to follow up with you here on the forums.

Thanks!

Good morning Susie!

I've been checking in on your support case to see if there have been any updates. Just wanted to get in touch with you and see if you were able to find information on the LMS and if that may be what is/was causing the issue.

If you're still having trouble with this, please let myself or John know.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Yes, we've done some more testing on our course. It seems to be an ipad device/setting issue.

It is still unknown why only my iPad mini is causing this issue. One of the big issue for my device is the private browsing mode from Safari settings when running articulate html5 scorm courses.

We have 2 mini ipads and one is purchased few months before mine. That is the only difference but the other ipad seem to work fine even the private browsing mode is turned on. As for my device, it crashes every time I turn this mode on. Can't seem to reproduce my issue on other devices... Decided to just switch mine off at this time.

Thanks for your support!

Susie

Hi Susie!

Thank you so much for the update! :)

Well, I am sorry to hear about the device, but I am certainly happy to find out that this is only happening for one - that is good news!

I wish I had access to a mini so I could try to find some suggestions, but I'm afraid I don't. Hopefully you'll be able to continue with another device, or find a solution for that one.

Thanks again Susie and have a great day!

Christine

Hi Scott and welcome to Heroes!

I looked at Susie's case and there isn't any further information other than she was looking into the settings from her LMS as our team wasn't able to replicate it. I'm uncertain what LMS she was using, and you may want to send her a Private message to see if she was able to determine anything specific in the LMS. If you'd like us to take a look at your course, we'd be happy to and you can share it here in the forums or I can send you directions to share privately.

Thanks Ashley. I am going to try a couple things here first.  I'm finding in landscape view on iPad, the bottom of player is cut off. In portrait view, you can see whole player, but greatly reduced. Also, as Susie indicated, very erratic and will quit playing and suddently open another tab and ask if you want to resume or start from finish. Obviously people are having success publishing out to HTML5 and viewing on iOS device yes?

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the additional information, and yes I believe a number of users are accessing the HTML5 version in their iPads. A few things you may want to check into are the version of iOS you're using, if it's specific to your LMS (you could upload a version to SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard testing method for SCORM Content to see if the behavior persists).

Please feel free to keep us posted as you continue troubleshooting.

iOS7 should be good (both versions) but anyone who is on an earlier iPad and only has iOS5 may encounter some limitations like those described here.

There is also an issue our QA team is looking into for LMS's that display their content in an iFrame and it not resizing correctly on an iPad. Since it's varies depending on the LMS, you may want to check with your LMS if there is a way to not display the content in an iFrame.
