Hyperlinks will not highlight when hovered over!

Oct 30, 2014

Hi guys,

This is driving me crazy! No matter what I do, I cannot get my hyperlinked text to highlight when I hover over it. I have read through the hyperlink-related discussions on here and played around with the Design settings in Storyline, and I still cannot figure it out. I originally created my project in Storyline 1, and then imported it into Storyline 2. My hyperlinks were automatically highlighting in SL1, but now in SL2 they just will not highlight.

This may seem like a minor issue, but for the user-friendly aspect of my project, the highlighting of the hyperlinks is kind of essential.

I am regretting importing the story into SL2.

Help please?!?

Thanks!

Hi Wendy,

Here is a sample of my project-

The menu items "Course Overview", "Course Rules", "Professional Recognition" and "Course Structure" are all hyperlinked to lightbox or jump to their respective slides. "Campuses" is also meant to lightbox another slide (not included in this example). Also, within the connected slides, the bold blue and green terms are also meant to highlight a glossary slide (not included in this example). The hyperlinks work, however they do not highlight when hovered over.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Renee

Hi Renee

because the menu items "Course Overview", "Course Rules", "Professional Recognition" and "Course Structure" are all in the one textbox/shape you can't change the state to show a hover on those individual items that I know of...

perhaps there is a 'Hero' out there that knows how to do it.

I showed in my .story files the only way I know how.  Each menu item has to be in it's own textbox/shape to allow you create a change state to hover trigger when the user mouses over...or put a hotspot over the hyperlink and trigger that way.

I would be very interested to see how you have it set up in SL1.

Sorry I wasn't more help ;-)

I'm having the same problem while trialling storyline 2.

I had multiple hyperlinks within a single text box and each one highlighted and hyperlinked just fine in the old version (as long as the box wasn't animated).

But, after importing into storyline 2, there is no highlight over these links at all.

Is this only a problem when importing from the old version?

Thanks
Mike

Create a new state for your textbox and choose hover. While still in edit state mode for the hover state edit your textbox by selecting your link text and right clicking and choose font then from that drop down you will see the highlight colour selector, choose your colour. Click out of that and repeat for next link. Then for each link select the text and choose insert hyperlink and enter the url to hyperlink to. Click on done editing states. Add a trigger to your textbox to change the state of the text box to hover when the user mouses over the textbox. (Make sure the "restore on mouse leave" is checked) Preview the slide and you will see when you hover over the text box your links will be highlighted. I have attached a sample file for you to see if it is what you want to do.

Thanks for the suggestion, with some careful editing of each text box that could work - but would be a pain for updating. The problem is that I have 60 something slides in this program that I would have to re-do the hyperlinks on, so a work-a-round isn't good enough. I just don't have the time for that.

What's needed is a fix in storyline 2 for the conversion process.

Cheers

Hello Renee and Mike!

I was able to recreate this issue from my end when upgrading a file from SL1 to SL2.

The highlighting does work when you type a new text box and hyperlink in SL2.

I will be reporting this to our QA team for review. The only workaround for now is to create new text boxes and re hyperlink them. I will add updates as I get them.
